HAYWARD, Calif. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan water polo team kicked off its California trip with a lopsided win, pulling away from CSU East Bay in the second quarter en route to a 13-6 decision on Saturday afternoon (April 5) at Pioneer Pool.

Senior Audrey Pratt (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame HS) headlined the Wolverine offensive effort with three goals -- her second hat trick of the season -- while freshman Allison Skaggs (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) and sophomore Presley Pender (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) posted two goals apiece. Nine different Wolverine players tallied at least one goal.

Freshman Emily Browning (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) and sophomore Hayden Green (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo HS) split time in the Wolverine goal, combining for a solid 14 saves. Browning started the contest and recorded nine blocks -- as well as an assist and a steal -- while Green posted five stops in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverines jumped out to an initial two-goal advantage before CSU East Bay scored three in a row to briefly take a narrow one-goal lead late in the first quarter. Pratt netted her first goal of the game in the closing minute of the frame to knot the score at 3-3, and Michigan surged with four unanswered goals in the second to take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break. Pender scored twice in the second quarter, including one at the buzzer.

Both teams scored a pair of goals in the third, before U-M added four more goals in the fourth. Pratt completed her hat trick early in the final frame, scoring on an 6-on-5 opportunity before adding another after a steal just 25 seconds later.

Michigan will wrap up its West Coast trip tomorrow (Sunday, April 6), heading to Rohnert Park, Calif., to face Sonoma State at noon PDT at Rudloff Pool.
