HAYWARD, Calif. -- Sophomore Presley Pender (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) scored a career-best five goals to headline the No. 17-ranked University of Michigan water polo team's 13-6 victory at Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon (April 6) at the Seawolves' Rudloff Pool. With the win, U-M completed the weekend sweep on the road in California and has triumphed in 14 of its last 15 games.

Presley wrapped up her fourth hat trick of the season in the third quarter before adding two more goals fourth to record a Wolverine season high with the five-goal effort. She extended her scoring streak to six straight games and has netted multiple goals in 11 of the last 15 contests.

Sophomore Kelly Martin (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park HS) also recorded a hat trick -- her first of the season and second of her career -- while senior Hathaway Moore (Atherton, Calif./St. Francis HS) netted two, both in the first quarter.

With just a one-goal cushion midway through the third quarter, the Wolverine offense exploded late as U-M scored three in the final three minutes of the frame and five more in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Seawolves. Pender kick-started the Michigan surge with a successful five-meter penalty shot before Martin followed with two goals in the closing two minutes, twice finding the high corner of the cage.

The Wolverines scored early and often in the final frame. Freshman Kimberly Graziano (Ann Arbor, Mich./Skyline HS) took advantage of a 6-on-5 opportunity to net her second of the weekend two minutes into the period and after shutting down a Seawolve power play on the other end, U-M scored on each of its next two possessions. Martin completed her hat trick with a goal similar to her first two, finding the upper nearside corner. The Wolverines converted another 6-on-5 opportunity late before Pender closed out the game with her fifth tally on the counter attack, just sneaking in a shot past the post.

Pender also opened the game's scoring, netting a cross-cage shot on an early power play in the first quarter. Moore scored her two goals in quick succession midway through the period, driving up the middle on a counter attack and burying the rebound on the first and slamming in a pass from senior Audrey Pratt (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame HS) on the second.

Michigan will wrap up the regular season next weekend, hosting the first ever CWPA League Weekend on Saturday and Sunday (April 12-13) at Canham Natatorium. U-M will play three games, opening against Hartwick at 7 p.m. on Saturday before facing Gannon (10:30 a.m.) and Notre Dame College (3 p.m.) on Sunday.
