Michigan Head Coach Matt Anderson
On the best part of the Wolverines' performance ... "What I liked best was that we kept working on the defensive end. They got out to a 2-0 lead, but then we won the sprint in the second and went down and scored. The girls really just stayed aggressive and smart on defense. We were making them try to finish and not giving up bad kickouts. We matched up properly on timeouts, and we matched up properly in the fourth quarter. The correct freshmen went to the right people and just played outstanding. At this point in the season, effort is really important. That was the difference."
On winning the rubber match vs. Indiana ... "Playing a third game, with the season series being 1-1, you knew it was going to be a heck of a game. Now had either team gone 2-0, I think the losing team would have had the advantage, because in a rivalry game -- when both teams are good -- it's awfully hard to beat a team three times in one season. We were at home. We had a great crowd and great alumni, and they were excited. The girls stayed calm, and they let their emotion guide them."
On the play of senior goalkeeper Alex Adamson ... "She was the player of the game for a reason. The last time we played them, she let in shots that she knows was not indicative of the quality of goalkeeper she is. So, all week we said, 'We're going to give them those shots again, because we know Alex is going to block them.' We kept telling her how much we believe in her goaltending. She was outstanding."
On the Michigan-Indiana rivalry ... "I told them before the game that in 20 years the only games they'll remember are Michigan-Indiana. So, let's focus on the good and add one tonight. But had they lost, there would have been no shame. That's a darn good team we just beat. If we had water polo games on ESPN, this would have been an instant classic."
