BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Michigan water polo team earned the No. 13 ranking in the 2014 Women's Varsity Preseason Top 20 poll, released today (Wednesday, Jan. 15). The Wolverines, who have been ranked in every national poll in the modern era, also begin the season with the No. 2 ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Top 10 poll.
Michigan will face at least four teams listed among the preseason top 20 during the 2014 regular season, including three top-10 opponents -- No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 California and No. 8 San Jose State -- at the Stanford Invitational in two weeks. U-M will also play No. 15 Indiana at this weekend's Michigan Kick-Off in addition to a home-and-home regular-season series.
Three other CWPA schools earned top-20 rankings. Princeton ranks the highest at No. 8, with Indiana coming in at No. 15 and Hartwick at No. 19.
The Maize and Blue hosts the Michigan Kick-Off this Saturday (Jan. 18) at Canham Natatorium, facing Iona at 12:30 p.m. and Indiana at 6 p.m. Both games feature free admission.
