Wolverines Tabbed No. 11 in Preseason Rankings

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Michigan water polo team earned the No. 11 ranking in the 2013 Women's Varsity Preseason Top 20 poll, released today (Wednesday, Jan. 16). The Wolverines, who have been ranked in every national poll in the modern era, also begin the season with the No. 2 ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Top 10 poll.

Michigan will face at least nine teams listed among the preseason top 20 during the 2013 regular season, including three top-10 opponents -- No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 San Diego State and No. 9 San Jose State -- at this weekend's Michigan Kick-Off. U-M will also play single-game road slates at No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 California, No. 13 Hawaii and No. 14 Indiana.

Four other CWPA schools earned top-20 rankings. Princeton ranks the highest at No. 10, with Indiana coming in at No. 14, Hartwick at No. 16 and Brown coming in at No. 18.

The Maize and Blue hosts the Michigan Kick-Off this weekend (Sat-Sun., Jan. 19-20) at Canham Natatorium, beginning with Colorado State at 9 a.m. and No. 3 UCLA at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolverines will face No. 9 San Jose State at 8 a.m. on Sunday before closing out the opening weekend against No. 7 San Diego State at 12:15 p.m.
