BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Michigan senior Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) was named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Defensive Player of the Week in recognition of her effort in goal during the Triton Invitational, the league announced Wednesday (Feb. 13). Adamson is the third U-M player to garner CWPA weekly honors this season.
Adamson posted 20 saves over the Wolverines' four-game weekend appearance at US San Diego's Triton Invitational (Feb. 9-10), contributing to a 2-2 record and 10th-place tournament finish. Adamson also notched an assist -- her third of the season -- in U-M's win over Cal State East Bay.
The Wolverine captain owns 75 saves on the season and 508 in her collegiate career, ranking second among U-M's all-time leaders in the category -- behind only assistant coach and two-time Olympian Betsey Armstrong (1,267, 2002-05). Adamson has been named CWPA Western Division Defensive Player of the Week four other times in her career.
Senior Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS) and freshman Ali Thomason (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) earned honor roll selection for Player of the Week and Rookie Player of the Week accolades, respectively.
The Wolverines will return to action at the Hoosier Invitational, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Counsilman-Billingsley Center in Bloomington, Ind.
