BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Freshman Allison Skaggs (Lake Forest, Cali./El Toro HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team was named the CWPA West Division Rookie of the Week in recognition of her play at the Cal Lutheran Invitational, the league office announced on Thursday (March 6).
Skaggs registered 10 goals over the Wolverines' perfect 4-0 appearance at the Cal Lutheran Invitational (Feb. 28-March 1), posting hat tricks against No. 15 UC Santa Barbara and Whittier before tallying a career-best four goals in the tournament finale against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The hat trick efforts were the first of her collegiate career.
Skaggs ranks among the Wolverines' leading scorers with 19 goals on the season.
The weekly honor is the second for Skaggs this season. She also netted the season's first rookie award after posting three goals, two assists and four steals at the season-opening Michigan Kick-Off (Jan. 18).
The Wolverines will face a three-game slate at the Harvard Invitational this weekend at Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Mass. On Saturday (March 8), U-M will kick off the tournament against host Harvard (7-3) at 8 a.m. before closing out the day against Marist (4-9) at 6 p.m. The Wolverines will wrap up the tournament appearance on Sunday (March 9), facing No. 17 San Diego State (8-6) at 2:15 p.m.
