BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Sophomore Presley Pender (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) and freshman Allison Skaggs (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team earned CWPA Western Division Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday (March 12). Pender was named Player of the Week, while Skaggs earned her second straight rookie nod in recognition of their play at the Harvard Invitational.
Pender led the Wolverine squad with eight goals at the Harvard Invitational, closing out the tournament with back-to-back hat tricks efforts against Marist and No. 16-ranked San Diego State. Pender boasts multi-goal performances in each of the last seven games. She added two assists and three steals at Harvard.
Skaggs posted six goals at the Harvard Invitational, scoring at least one in each game and matching a career-best four against Marist. She also posted two assists, six steals and seven drawn kick-outs. It is the second straight rookie accolade for Skaggs and her third of the season.
Michigan will play five games as part of its annual Wolverine Invitational this weekend at Canham Natatorium. On Saturday (March 15), U-M will kick off the tournament with back-to-back league games against Gannon (8 a.m.) and Notre Dame College (9:15 a.m.) before closing out the evening against Pacific (7 p.m.). The Wolverines will open Saturday (March 16) against Siena at 8 a.m. before wrapping their tournament against Fresno Pacific at 12:45 p.m.
