BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Senior Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS) and freshman Barbara Lanier (Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team earned CWPA Western Division Player of the Week honors in recognition of their play at U-M's annual Wolverine Invitational, the league announced on Wednesday (March 23). Golden was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Lanier garnered Rookie Player of the Week honors.
The weekly accolade is the third of the season for Golden, who posted 11 goals, eight assists and 11 steals to headline U-M's perfect 5-0 performance at the Wolverine Invitational (March 15-17). Golden has scored in all but four games this season. She leads the Wolverines in goals (36), points (49) and steals (35).
Lanier scored eight goals and tallied a pair of assists over the five-game weekend, registering back-to-back hat tricks against Gannon and Mercyhurst on the opening night before adding two goals against Notre Dame College. Lanier boasts 13 goals in her freshman season and three hat tricks. She previously earned CWPA Rookie Player of the Week accolades after posting three goals against Washington & Jefferson.
Michigan has earned CWPA Player of the Week honors following all five of six weeks of competition. In addition to Golden and Lanier repeat selection, junior Audrey Pratt (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame HS), senior goalkeeper Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) and freshman ;Bryce Beckwith (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis HS) have all earned one weekly nod this season.
The Wolverines hit the road for their final western trip of the season this weekend, heading to Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Invitational. Hosted by Arizona State, U-M will face Colorado State, Pomona and Cal Baptist on Saturday (March 23) before wrapping up the tournament against La Verne on Sunday (March 24).
