BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Freshman Emily Browning (Lake Forest, Cali./El Toro HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team was named the CWPA West Division Rookie of the Week in recognition of her play in league play against rival Indiana, the league office announced on Wednesday (April 2).
Browning posted a career-best 16 saves against the Hoosiers -- the second double-digit save effort of her collegiate career -- and held IU to seven goals, three of which came on five-meter penalty shots. The Wolverine rookie also recorded a pair of assists.
Browning has earned the bulk of the time in net this season, leading the Wolverine goalkeepers with 140 blocks and recording an 8.38 goals-against average. She has earned two CWPA Rookie of the Week accolades, previously garnering the distinction after posting 17 saves through two complete-game performances at the Fluid Four (Feb. 22).
Michigan will hit the road this weekend, traveling to California for a pair of non-conference games. On Saturday (April 5), U-M will face CSU East Bay at noon in Hayward, Calif., before wrapping the road trip with a noon game against Sonoma State on Sunday (April 6) in Rohnert Park, Calif.
