BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Junior Kelsey Nolan (San Jose, Calif./Leland HS) and senior Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team earned CWPA Western Division Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday (April 3). Nolan was named Player of the Week, while Adamson earned her second straight defensive nod in recognition of their play in U-M's recent overtime win over rival Indiana.
Nolan headlined the Wolverines' offensive efforts in U-M's 8-7 overtime win against the Hoosiers last Saturday (March 30), scoring three goals and posting three steals. Nolan struck twice in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying score with 1:40 remaining in the regulation to force overtime. It was her second hat trick of the season. Nolan added three steals, including one to keep the Hoosiers off the scoreboard in the second quarter. It is Nolan's first weekly nod this season and fifth in her career.
Adamson posted a career-best 17 saves in the Wolverine net, including three in overtime. She also assisted on the game-winning goal as she fed junior Audrey Pratt (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame HS) on the left side of the tank for a cross-cage shot late in the first overtime frame. It is Adamson's third weekly accolade of the season and seventh of her collegiate career.
Michigan has earned CWPA Player of the Week honors following seven of eight weeks of competition. Adamson and senior Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS) lead the group with three honors apiece.
The Wolverines will wrap up regular-season play this weekend, heading to Providence, R.I., for the Brown Bear Invitational. U-M will face Hartwick (11 a.m.) and CSU Bakerfield on Saturday (April 6) before wrapping up play against Arizona State (9:15 a.m.) and host Brown (2 p.m.) on Sunday (April 7). All games will be held at the Brown Bears' Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
