BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Sophomore Ali Thomason (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) of the University of Michigan water polo team was named the CWPA West Division Defensive Player of the Week in recognition of her play over the Wolverines' recent California road trip, the league office announced on Wednesday (April 10).
Thomason posted nine steals in back-to-back games against CSU East Bay and Sonoma State, including a career-high six in the latter, as well as two drawn kick-outs. Michigan held its opposition to just six goals per game on the road trip. Thomason also contributed an assist on the offensive side.
Sophomore Presley Pender (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) and freshman goalkeeper Emily Browning (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) earned honor roll distinction for the CWPA's weekly offensive and rookie honors.
The Wolverines will close out their home schedule this Saturday and Sunday (April 12-13) with the CWPA League Weekend at Canham Natatorium. U-M will face Hartwick at 7 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend against Gannon (10:30 a.m.) and Notre Dame College (3 p.m.) on Sunday. Admission is free for all games.
