ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Elizabeth Williams (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad), an attacker on the 13th-ranked University of Michigan water polo team, received CWPA Western Division Freshman of the Week honors for her performance over the weekend, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced Wednesday (April 11).
She helped Michigan wrap up the regular season with a pair of wins in College Park, Md., recording one goal on two attempts, five steals, and three field blocks over three games. It is the second CWPA Freshman of the Week honor for Williams, who also won the award on Feb. 7.
Williams chipped in an assist and field block as Michigan opened the weekend with a 16-4 victory against George Washington, and she registered one goal, three steals and two field blocks in a 12-7 win over Bucknell. In the regular-season finale at Maryland, she contributed two steals and drew a kick-out as the Wolverines dropped a close contest, 10-9.
Michigan will open the postseason at the CWPA Western Division Championship on Saturday and Sunday (April 14-15) in Bloomington, Ind. The No. 3 seed Wolverines will face the No. 6 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) Falcons at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.
