June 16, 2017

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its 2017 academic award winners with eight University of Michigan student-athletes earning recognition on Friday (June 16).

The organizations award student-athletes who have achieved grade point averages (GPA) of 3.2 or higher and competed during the season. The individuals are awarded at three levels: excellent (3.2-3.4 GPA), superior (3.41-3.7 GPA) and outstanding (3.71-4.00 GPA).

Senior captain Danielle Johnson achieved the highest honor, finishing her outstanding student-athlete career with above a 3.71 GPA. She made the list for the third straight year.

Five of U-M's eight student-athletes recognized fit in the superior category. They were seniors Emily Browning and Allison Skaggs, sophomore Kim Johnson and freshmen Skyler Pyle and Maddy Steere. Browning is a four-time recipient while Skaggs makes it for the third time. Kim Johnson has been on the list in back-to-back years.

Two more Wolverines, junior Laura Jimenez and freshman Heidi Ritner, were named Scholar Athletes under the excellent category. Both were first-time honorees.
