BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Six members of the University of Michigan women's water polo program were honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches as recipients of 2012 All-Academic awards.
Freshmen Lauren Nadel (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) and Elizabeth Williams (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) and sophomores Laura Milstead (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) and Sophie Høegh (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) earned superior recognition for having cumulative grade-point averages between 3.41 and 3.70. Nadel appeared in 16 games at two-meter and Williams played in all 35 games at attack this season. Milstead played in 29 of the 35 games, setting career-high marks in points (13), goals (11) and shooting percentage (.440). Høegh posted seven goals, five assists and a career-best 10 steals in 31 games of action.
Senior captain Meagan Cobb (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) and freshman Elizabeth Watson (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde HS) received excellent recognition from the organization for having GPAs between 3.20 and 3.40. Cobb graduated in the spring with a sociology degree and was the team's captain for the second consecutive season. She was third on the team in steals (44) and fourth in points (52) and goals (37). Watson appeared in 33 games as a first-year player, ranking second among freshmen in assists (8) and points (15).
A student-athlete must be an active participant on the team that competed in at least 50 percent of the games during the current season in order to be eligible for the All-Academic Team recognition.
