ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seniors Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) and junior Hathaway Moore (Atherton, Calif./Saint Francis) have been named captains of the University of Michigan's water polo team for the 2013 season, head coach Matt Anderson announced on Tuesday (Nov. 13).
"There were a multiple number of players who would be deserving of the captain role this year," said Anderson. "These three do a very good job of counterbalancing each other. Hathaway brings a good focus on the team to the mix, Kiki has definitely matured and earned it over the years, and obviously, Alex has some experience in this role after serving as a captain last season.
"The energy and different views they bring will enable this group of captains to lead this team to nice rewards in the water. Out of the water, because they built good relationships with their teammates and understand the academic and athletic expectations here at Michigan, they will be very good spokeswomen for the program."
A three-year mainstay in the Wolverine goal, Adamson already ranks second in program history in career wins (54) and third in career saves (434). She finished last season with a 15-10 record, posting a 7.09 GAA and a .457 save percentage. She is a two-time CWPA All-Western Division selection, including first-team selection as a freshman (2010). Adamson served as one of four U-M captains last season and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Golden, a three-time ACWPC All-America honorable mention selection, has appeared in every Michigan game for three seasons -- a span of 113 contests. She led the Wolverines in 2012 with a career-best 70 goals and 108 points en route to CWPA Western Division Player of the Year honors and her second straight selection to the CWPA All-Western Division first team. Golden boasts 148 career goals, 97 assists, 245 points and 218 steaks to ranks among the top-10 all-time Wolverine leaders in all four categories.
Moore established career highs in several statistical categories as a sophomore last season, including points (36) and assists (18). Over her two collegiate seasons, she owns 39 career goals, 31 assists, 70 points and 49 steals. Moore garnered Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2012.
The Wolverines open the 2013 campaign with the annual Michigan Kick-Off, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19-20, inside Canham Natatorium.
