SAINT LOUIS, Mo. -- University of Michigan freshman Taylor Manett (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) placed 25th in a time of 22:37.6 at the 2013 USA Cross Country Championships Junior 6K race on Saturday (Feb. 2).
The event served as the national team selection event for the men's and women's senior and junior teams. The top six finishers in each race earned a spot on Team USA for the IAAF Junior World Cross Country Championships, which will be held on March 24, 2013, in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
William & Mary freshman Emily Stites won the 6,000-meter race with a time of 20:27.3.
Manett will now return to Ann Arbor to rejoin the Wolverines for the remainder of indoor track and field season.
"It wasn't a performance reflective of what's she's done in training or in previous races, but we'll regroup," said Michigan head women's cross country coach Mike McGuire. "She still has a lot of big races ahead of her, and she's a big part of what we're going to do in the future. It's a good learning experience, good growth experience, and it's all part of the process over the four or five years she'll be at Michigan to ultimately get to the top of her running game."
