PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) of the eighth-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Oct. 2).
Addison claimed the individual title at the Rim Rock Farm Classic, leading the Wolverines to the overall team victory on Saturday (Sept. 29) at the University of Kansas. She clocked a season-best 6,000-meter time of 20:29.20, leading U-M's five scorers, who each finished within the top 11 to score 33 points.
This marks the first weekly honor of Addison's career and the first for Michigan since Danielle Tauro earned the laurel on Sept. 20, 2011.
Michigan's performance at Kansas elevated the Wolverines three spots to No. 8 in the most-recent USTFCCCA Coaches Poll, released today.
Addison and the Wolverines will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13, at NCAA Pre-Nationals at the University of Louisville's E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. The state park will also be the site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.
