ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore/freshman Anna Pasternak (Brighton, Mich./Hartland) of the seventh-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was named the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Oct. 23).
Pasternak won her first collegiate race on Friday, Oct. 19, at the EMU Fall Classic. She paced the Wolverines in the non-scoring event with a career-best 5,000-meter time of 17:49.3.
This marks the first weekly honor of Pasternak's young career. She is the second Wolverine to earn the honor this season as senior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) was also tabbed Athlete of the Week on Oct. 2.
The Wolverines will begin the championship portion of their season on Sunday, Oct. 28, with the Big Ten Championships, which will be hosted by Michigan State. The 6,000-meter championship race is slated for a 10:45 a.m. start.
