Shoes: Proper tennis court shoes with non-marking soles are required. Running shoes are not permitted. VTC reserves the right to refuse court usage if a player does not have appropriate court shoes.
Cancellations: If you cancel a reservation less than 24 hours in advance, you will be responsible for the full court fee. Failure to do so could result in a revoking of membership.
Usage: Courts may be reserved for a maximum of two hours and one individual may only reserve one court at a given time. No more than five players are permitted on a court.
Check-in: All members must check in at the front desk before entering either the indoor or outdoor courts. Please scan your membership keytag at the desk.
Food & Drink: No food or drink is permitted on the courts except water in plastic containers.
Attire: Tennis attire is to be worn while on court. Shirts must be worn at all times.
Behavior: Cursing, yelling, racquet throwing, abuse to court surface, walls, ceiling or scoreboards will not be tolerated.
Alcohol: Alcoholic beverages are not permitted anywhere on the Varsity Tennis Center property.
Instruction: Lessons can only be given by VTC approved instructors. All other lessons are prohibited.
Varsity Team Cancellation: If your court is canceled or taken for varsity teams use, your next court time will be free of charge.

Q. Are University of Michigan students, faculty and staff required to purchase a membership to play at the Varsity Tennis Center?
A. Yes, the Varsity Tennis Center is a member-only facility. All students, faculty and staff must purchase a membership to play.
Q. I'm not affiliated with the University of Michigan, can I still purchase a membership?
A. Yes, memberships are available to all persons, including those not affiliated with the University of Michigan. However, you must list a sponsor who is affiliated with the University of Michigan on your application form.
Q: Can I play with people who are not members?
A: Yes. Guests are able to play for a daily fee of $10 per person.
Q: I'm considering buying a membership, but I would like to come and play and check out the facility before I make that decision, is it possible for me to do that?
A: While you are free to come by and check out our facility, we do require that you pay a $10 guest fee if you would like to play before buying a membership.
Q: What if I call to cancel my court more than 24 hours in advance but no one answers, will I still be charged the court fee?
A: You must call within our hours of operation and speak to a member of staff to cancel a court reservation. If no one answers or calls you back, please try calling again.
Q: Why do I have to get my picture taken at the front desk?
A: A picture is associated with your membership profile for staff viewing only. We require both members and guests have their picture taken for safety, security and equity.
Q: Do you have a family membership option?
A: We encourage families to join but each individual person will receive their own membership. We do not offer a discounted family membership rate at this time.
Q: Can my children play on a court with me if they don't have memberships?
A: Your children can play with you, but a $10 per day guest fee will be charged for each child who is not a current member.
